At SSNR, we treat all domains of language to improve an individual’s ability to communicate and participate in meaningful activities
Changes in language skills can result following a stroke, TBI, other brain injury or with progression a neurodegenerative diagnosis like dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, ALS, Multiple Sclerosis, Progressive Supranuclear Palsy and Multiple Systems Atrophy.
Common language deficits include difficulty with reading, writing, speaking, and listening.
More specifically:
- Difficulty finding words
- Generating made up sounding words
- Leaving out words when speaking
- Only able to generate one word at a time or specific phrases over and over
- Generating words with sound errors
- Difficulty reading single words or simple phrases
- Difficulty following conversations
- Difficulty answering questions
- Difficulty understanding minimally complex instructions or information
- Difficulty writing personal information
- Difficulty writing coherent simple sentences
